PZ Myers Debates Jerry Bergman

Come join CASH on Monday! Our faculty advisor, PZ Myers will be debating Creationist Jerry Bergman.

NOTE: Despite what the flyer below says, the debate is actually at 7:30pm. Wouldn't hurt to be early, though!

Make sure to come to Freethought Day and pick up your CASH Shirt.

While we haven't quite hammered out the pricing, it seems as though it will be less expensive for CASH members.

The pricing will be as follows: $7 per shirt for CASH members, $12 per shirt for non-CASH members. If you go to the U, it's $5 to join CASH, so if you're buying one, go ahead and join!

New Course at the U: Religion, Ethics and Educational Policy

Professor Robert Osburn emailed CASH about a really interesting course offered next semester. Check it out:

EdPA 3010 Special Topics for Undergraduates: “Religion, Ethics, and Educational Policy”

Instructor: Robert Osburn, PhD

3 credits

M/W 11:15 am-12:30 pm

Description: Most appropriate for students who have taken at least one year of coursework, the course examines the increasing complexity of religious life in America and disputes regarding the place of religion and religious practice in public life. These call for discernment in the classroom, as well as greater skill in understanding the historical and contemporary role of religious belief and expression in K-12 and higher education. Students will interact with community and religious leaders, consider legal and ethical issues in schooling, as well as issues of religion and science, values education, school prayer, students' and educators' rights and responsibilities with respect to religious expression, religion in the global educational context, and related topics.

 

Dr. Richard Dawkins: The Purpose of Purpose

At 7pm on Wednesday, March 4th, CASH will be hosting a lecture by Dr. Richard Dawkins, a famous evolutionary biologist and outspoken atheist famous for his 2006 New York Times best seller, The God Delusion . The talk will be held in Northrop Auditorium at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.

Tickets for this event are $8 for students/$15 for non-students. They are available through the Northrop Auditorium Box Office in advance and will also be sold at the door:
